Botanical Ornament Building, Dec 6
Botanical ornament building will take place on Saturday 12/6 from 1-3:30pm. BYOB! Class size is limited to 8 participants. Our studio is located in between Logan Square & Hermosa in Chicago, near Armitage & Springfield. Exact directions will be sent in a follow up email.
In this workshop, we will be designing and making botanical amulets and ornaments - think ceramic flowers, leaves, olive branches, pomegranates, if it grows from the ground, we’re can make it in clay!!
We will begin by sourcing inspiration from live botanicals like herbs, wildflowers, pine cones, mushrooms, books, and digital images, working together to really identify their characteristics and defining how we’d like to them to look in 3D. Then, we’ll sketch our designs, and learn a variety of sculpting techniques as we build them!
After they’ve dried for about a week- they will get glazed & fired. You will have the option of picking them up at the studio within 4 weeks of the class date, or you can opt to pay for UPS shipping within 2 weeks of class date ($16).
Use these special ornaments however you like, but just to be crystal clear, in my mind these ornaments are not strictly for a Christmas tree, let’s say, but moreover meant to adorn your spaces year round, a way to bring our favorite parts of nature into the home.
We’ll have drinks and snacks, and you are welcome to bring booze as this event is BYOB! Previous clay experience is not necessary for this class. Currently our classes are open to ages 18+. A note on accessibility: the studio is, unfortunately, not fully ADA accessible at this time, though an elevator is available for use after climbing a short staircase. ASL translation is available for this workshop, please just send along an email ahead of time to request an interpreter to des@depyzepo.life !
